Crane damages nearby condo in Pompano after being toppled by wind gusts

POMPANO BEACH -- A construction crane at the Spa Atlantis building site was blown over by a wind gust on Monday morning.

	Bystanders say wind caught this pile of wood, which was being removed from the Spa Atlantis, and caused a large crane to collapse in Pompano Beach on Monday. No injuries were reported, however, the top floor of the Crosswinds, left, was damaged by the crane.

      As it fell across a street, it badly damaged a condominium in the 1300 block of North Ocean Blvd.
      No one was injured when the 12-story crane toppled over onto the partially occupied Cross Winds apartment building shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, said Sandra King, spokeswoman for the city.
     The crane operator was lifting a stack of wood when the wind caught the load and apparently put too much stress on the metal.
     Eight units in the building were evacuated and electricity was cut off to those apartments.
      King said housing was being located for the victims.
