A Bend crane company that employed a man who lost his legs in an accident was fined by the state for a similar accident in 1997 near Meacham, according to regulators.

The fine, issued to Nick's Crane Service, was one of four “serious” violations issued to the company since 1993, according to Kevin Weeks, spokesman for the Oregon Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OOSHA).

EMS Image 3/16/04: UK — Wembley 'bungee' crane hell
| Cache Copy N/A |

Two Wembley Stadium workers were badly hurt yesterday in a bungee-style accident.

The men were 100ft up in a cage suspended from a crane when a cable, apparently blown by wind, snagged on a stand.

The line tightened until it broke free, catapulting the cage upwards. It then plunged 40ft on to the concrete top tier of a partly-built stand.

3/08/04: Hagerstown, Maryland — Construction Halted Due to Crane Mishap | Dead Link | | Cache Copy N/A |

Demolition work at a Hagerstown construction site came to an abrupt halt Monday.

The big crane working at the site of the old McCrory's Building on W. Washington Street tipped over onto its side, almost slipping all the way down into a 12-foot hole.

No one was injured when the machinery toppled over, but it did halt the construction that was taking place. The site is the future home of a new open space area that will sit next to the University System of Maryland Campus.

There's no word on when the crane will be returned to its correct position, or just how workers plan to get the big crane upright.

* EMS Image 3/04/04: Raleigh, North Carolina — Construction worker injured on I-440 | Cache Copy |

A construction worker was critically injured when a vehicle struck a piece of construction equipment he was trying to drive across Interstate-440 in East Raleigh early today. Charles Holten Scott, 49, of Elkview, W. Va., was driving a mechanized lift, said Raleigh police Capt. Michael Teem. The machine has four large wheels, an engine and a bucket at the end of an arm that stretched across two lanes of traffic, Teem said. Scott was ejected from the vehicle. The driver that hit him, Timothy Earl Porter, 33, of Fuquay-Varina was also injured. Both men were transported to WakeMed. Porter was treated and released.

Teem said the accident occurred about 6:15 a.m., before daylight, and that Porter had little time to react when he saw the machine across his path. Porter's Cavalier collided with the bucket from which Scott was operating the machine. Scott was working for Vecellio and Grogan Inc. of Beckley W. Va.
