This is the 4th AVOIDABLE incident reported to this site this year in which power lines were involved. There were 41 incidents reported to this site in 2004, 60 in 2003, 33 in 2002 and 35 in 2001. Again, all were avoidable. Just don't work cranes near energized power lines.

Power line contact is the most frequent cause of crane accidents, yet they are the easiest to prevent. LOOK up and live!

EMS  1/22/05: Ann Arbor, Michigan —  Crane tips at U-M job site

One of the outriggers supporting the crane began to collapse, and the boom of the crane smashed into the small enclosure, where a worker was getting some fireproofing materials. The force shattered the temporary structure located next to the building, injuring the worker in the leg.

Toppled Crane Causes 8-Mile Backup On I-15 - Lots of photos

Reportedly, the crane's operator, Curtis Myers, of Bob's Crane Service in Lakeside, was trapped in the cab for two hours.

Myers was taken to an area hospital, but he suffered no broken bones or internal injuries, said his co-worker, Lester Williams.

50-year-old crane operator has died after he was smashed by a 20-ton auto-crane. The incident occurred in the area of a new passenger bridge construction site.

*  1/07/05: Mound, Minnesota —  Construction Worker Dies in Crane Accident

A construction worker from Annandale is dead after a bucket fell and hit him Tuesday afternoon. The incident took place at a construction site on Shoreline Avenue in Mound.

John Elsenpeter was married with two young sons.

O.S.H.A. is investigating the incident. No one else sustained any injuries.
1/06/05: Baton Rouge, Louisiana —  Crane jib folds back

Two workers with Lafayette Steel Erector attempt to dislodge parts of a buckled crane 15 stories above North Street in downtown Baton Rouge. The crane, being used to help build the new Iberville building, collapsed Wednesday afternoon, the second crane collapse at the site in the past three months.
